چکیده

Abstract Monovalent selective electrodialysis (MSED) is a variant of conventional (ED) that employs ion exchange membranes to preferentially remove monovalent ions relative divalent ions. This process can be beneficial when the rich stream has potential applications. In agriculture, for example, in calcium and magnesium deemed crops decrease use fertilizers would otherwise need re-introduced source water prior irrigation. MSED been used salt production, brine concentration, An experimentally validated computational model predict its performance, however, not available literature. The present work uses concepts from ED modelling build high-resolution predictive performance MSED. was with over 32 experiments at different operating conditions observed fit data within 6% 8% two types membranes. Selective Mass Transport of CO2 Containing Mixtures through Zeolite Membranes

In this work, the main aspects regarding the permeation of mixtures containing CO2 and permanent gases such as H2 , N2 and CH4 through zeolite membranes have been investigated, focusing on the description of the mass transport mechanisms taking place inside the pores. First, a brief overview about the performance of the main zeolite membranes used in gas separation (e.g. DDR, CHA, AEI, FAU, etc...

Selective and asymmetric molecular transport across electroporated cell membranes.

Transport of a divalent cation (Ca2+) and three DNA indicators [ethidium bromide (EB), propidium iodide (PI), and ethidium homodimer (EthD-1)] across electroporated membranes of several mammalian cell lines was found to be selective and asymmetrical. In low salt medium, Ca2+ and EB were preferentially transported across the anodefacing cell membrane while PI and EthD-1 predominately entered at ...

Selective ionic transport through tunable subnanometer pores in single-layer graphene membranes.

We report selective ionic transport through controlled, high-density, subnanometer diameter pores in macroscopic single-layer graphene membranes. Isolated, reactive defects were first introduced into the graphene lattice through ion bombardment and subsequently enlarged by oxidative etching into permeable pores with diameters of 0.40 ± 0.24 nm and densities exceeding 10(12) cm(-2), while retain...

Selective extraction using preferential transport through adsorptive membranes.

Selective extraction of a protein from a mixture can be accomplished using an adsorptive membrane and low displacement recuperative parametric pumping. Low displacement recuperative parametric pumping can lead to the preferential transport of an adsorbing solute and the rejection of nonadsorbing solutes by the adsorptive membrane. Using a protein mixture consisting of lysozyme and myoglobin, we...
